Angling Report
December 2004
Hello and a Happy New Year from all at Bessy Beck Trout
Here is our angling report for December 2004.
December was a month of poor and good catches, on days when the temperature
rose anglers did well. Tony Daykin caught a 13lb rainbow and an 8lb blue
in one session. During a snow storm, Arnold Patefield had 8 fish in an
hour before being beaten by the cold.
Tebay Angling Club held a competition for the Roger Blenkinship memorial
trophy on the 28th December. Ten anglers participated and collectively
caught 34 fish. the winner was Graham Charlton with 7 fish. Graham is
a dedicated river trout fisherman and seldom fishes on still waters, we
hope he decides to try our spot again. Competition organiser Stephen Hall
had the largest fish, a 5lb rainbow. The competition was fly only, catch
and release on the Island Lake, on the day the weather was wet and blustery.
The Heron Lake (bait fishing only) fished consistently well during the
month, the Brooks party, Curly, Alan Bradley and Irwin catching 15, 14
and 21 in consecutive visits. Master George Slack had 13 on the worm.
Bessy Beck reopens for fishing on the 1st Feb. 2005, when the water will
have been restocked with triploid rainbows. History shows that even in
the coldest conditions fish can be caught on deeply sunk buzzers or lures
such as cats whiskers on a sunken line. The fishery can freeze given prolonged
frost, therefore anglers should phone before travelling any distance.
The number is 015396 23303.
We look forward to seeing you all from 1st Feb. Happy new year.
