Angling Report
Mid February 2005
After a winter closure Bessy Beck reopened for fishing on the 1st February.
Conditions have varied between gale force winds and torrential rain to
dead calm and sunny. The wet and windy days proved to be the best for
fishing. On one such occasion Mr and Mrs Aiston from Carlisle caught 30
fish between them, the largest 6lb, using a damsel nymph.
Local anglers Steve Hayhurst and Steve Allen fished during a snowstorm
on the 13th February and caught fish, the largest being 5.75lb and 7lb.
They were using a Cats Whisker on a sunken line.
Under difficult conditions, on one of the bright, sunny and cold days Jeremy Lucas had fish of 5.5lb and 4.5lb.
Following a -10'C frost on the 15th February the lakes completely froze. However a change in temperature the following day returned things to normal.
Anyone thinking of travelling to Bessy Beck during cold weather should check before setting off. Call 01539 623303.
