Angling Report
Mid June 2005
The weather has been very mixed over the last month, mostly cool with the winds from the West and South giving good fishing conditions for most of the time.
Hawthorn flies hatched in great numbers for most of May and anything small and black caught fish.
Mayflies, that is light olives were seen briefly at the beginning of June, from then until now, mid June there have been large hatches of Alder flies. Damselflies are also being seen in numbers.
On the 18th May, Neil Barcock and Stephen Sowerby caught 30 fish to 6lb. using dry Hawthorn flies.
On the 28th May, Edwin Graham had 19 fish the largest 6lbs under difficult conditions using Bloodworm.
Bob Hopper and Tom Clayton had 30 fish between them on the 7th June, again using a Bloodworm pattern the largest were 9lb 1oz and 8lb 6oz.
Mid June saw fish rising freely in afternoon and evening, they were being caught on dry flies mainly sedge patterns. During this period Arnold Patefield had 19 in a 3hr evening session and Mike James from Lancaster had 27 to 6lb in an afternoon.
Following a period of warm weather the water temperature has risen to 18C on 20th June 05and fish are being difficult to tempt during the middle of the day. The best times will be early morning and evenings in July and August with Daddies, and Sedge patterns being worth a try.
