Angling Report

Mid November 2005

After a long warm spell for the time of year, November sees the temperatures dropping rapidly. We are currently having clear cloudless days with plenty of sunshine and freezing nights often accompanied by a hard frost.

Notable catches this month include Tony and Dean Taylor returning 17 and 14 respectively. Among Deans catch was a beautiful 10lb rainbow, the responsible fly was a Sedge Hogg. On 20th Oct Alan Entwhistle from Fleetwood returned 30 fish, his successful fly being the Kellys Killer. Dean Taylor also fished on the same day returning 17. A 7.10lb rainbow was also caught on a Cat’s Whisker by Stuart Golding from Penrith. Arnold Patefield, a regular visitor to Bessy Beck returned 18 using buzzers and a Hare’s Ear. Big catches have been recorded throughout the month with A Walker returning 26 and T Hopper returning 28.

Buzzers and Cat’s whiskers are likely candidates for the favourite fly over the coming weeks. All the lakes will continue to be stocked with triploid trout throughout the winter months to ensure anglers get their best chance of a fish when conditions allow.

Our lakes can freeze over, so please phone to book. Following a prolonged frost phone before setting off to make sure you don’t have a wasted journey.

You are assured a warm welcome even on the coldest days as the stove is on in the fishing lodge.

Please note we shall be closed during January 2006.
