Angling Report
Mid March 2007
The weather this March has been mild. On some days fish have been seen taking small midge flies off the surface, yet anglers are still being more successful using lures.
Best Flies
The best lures this month have been Silver Humungus, Orange Blob and Yellow Dancer. Other useful flies were Black buzzer, Green buzzer and Black and Green Nymph.
Notable catches
Tom Clayton from Durham caught and released 29 in one session on nymph. Garry Edwards from Penrith caught and released 18 using a buzzer and Frank Vaughn from Preston caught and released 23 using a Silver Humungus. This was a personal best for Frank.
As we get into April and May, we can expect the best of the year's fishing at Bessy Beck when trout rise throughout the day and can be caught on the dry fly. Suggested flies for April and May; Black Klinkhammer, Olive Klinkhammer and Hawthorn fly.
Competitions
The CEFF Airflow individual heat will take place at Bessy Beck on the 12th April, the team heat will be on the 3rd May.
