Angling Report

Mid November 2007

Bessy Beck has been quite lightly fished during September and October despite there being a lack of rain and the temperatures being relatively mild.

Fish are still being caught on or near the surface. Evenings with little wind are best but in these milder conditions there is movement throughout the day.

Best flies are Dry Klinkhammer, Hoppers, CDC flies and Muddlers fished on the surface. Beaded nymphs and bloodworm patterns on occasions are very successful.

Many fish between 3.5 to 4.5lb being caught, mainly blues, however fish to 10lb have recently been stocked.

Local angler Steve Hall returned 12 fish using a deep red beaded bloodworm on the 23rd Oct. Graeme Bell from Workington caught and returned 16 using a mixture of small dries and buzzers. Howard Barlow from Manchester had a good morning on the 23rd Oct. catching 17 fish to 5lbs using buzzers and Damsel nymph. David Labram from Carlisle had a great afternoon returning 11 fish using a very small size 18 green Klinkhammer and Duncan Elliott’s party from Durham caught and released upwards of 40 fish using CDC’s, Hoppers and Muddlers.

Winter can be very good at Bessy Beck when lures, buzzers and Bloodworm are best fished on Intermediate lines, there will be no problem with freezing over this year since the installation of aerators in each lake.
